4 Reasons to Include Social Marketing in Your Business

Selling products on the Internet without a blog can be compared to playing golf without a putter. Would you do it?  Your competitors are using blogs and making more sales than you every day without even trying. Part of blogging involves submitting your articles to social directories, so that’s even more traffic!

Here are 4 reasons to include social marketing into your Internet business.

1. Social marketing is becoming a very popular way to get information. Digg and Netscape have directories that are used by people all over the world to keep up to date on what is happening. You are missing out on a lot of traffic if you are not blogging and submitting to relevant social directories.

2. Social marketing isn’t difficult. You only need to get a WordPress blog and set it up to quickly bookmark the top directories. After that, all you have to do is post on your blog every day. Blogging isn’t difficult, you only have to type the way you talk.

3. Social marketing offers a connection between you and your readers by providing a way to interact with them via what is now known as Web 2.0. People enjoy dealing with people so it would be important to use Web 2.0 to allow for that interaction. Although the Internet makes use of recent technology, it’s important to go back to the basics every now and then and remember what people like. By creating an interactive blog, you become a real person for your readers. It creates more trust and will help increase the likelihood of sales and repeat sales.

4. Search engines also love social marketing. By blogging about keyword rich subjects, you make it easier for the search engines to find you, which means that people can then find you using the search engines. If you take the time to master social marketing techniques, your blog can appear on the first page of a Google search results. Same goes for the other search engines too. All search engines regularly spider Digg, Reddit, Newsvine, Twitter, Facebook and many other sites to try to find fresh relevant content for the visitors. Why not benefit from the added traffic instead of sending it all to your competitors?

Although this post may have confused you if you don’t know anything about blogging, it’s not difficult to become familiar with blogging. Have a look at Commission Ritual by Brian Johnson.  The course contains everything you need to know about blogging, building niche sites and getting traffic from Web 2.0 sites. I highly recommend Brian’s course.

Social media is truely the wave of the future…and companies cannot afford to ignore them any longer. It takes a careful approach, depending on your organizational selling process.

Twitter, for example, is a great mechanism to do customer service requests. Tell your customers to send inquires to your twitter account, and then you can even reply through the service.

Although some small businesses firms that made a presence in social media sites failed to promote effectively using social media because of lack of content and interaction. Thus, people look at them as spam accounts then eventually hurting their brand. Proper research and hard work must be done in order to be successful in using this method of marketing.

Great article. Social media is mostly free and available to the masses. The ability to build your network and then use your network to reach further networks, means the size of the market you can now reach has exploded like never before!

Taking time to plan a proper social media marketing campaign is worth it though. I think we’ve all had the experience of spending hours on Twitter or Facebook only to realise that ten minutes of that hour were spent productively, but the other 50 were spent getting distracted!

Focus is the key! (as well as careful planning and measuring!)

Working in the affiliate marketing industry you find that most organisations don’t aim for the ‘conversation’ that should be the aim of all social media communications. It’s all one way shouting at the customer, and this will never work where customers have the platform to annoymously flame the company.
