Getting Started with CPA

There are two things you need to be successful with CPA marketing. Patience, and traffic. I can’t help you much with patience. If you’re going to pull your hair out and throw your keyboard every time a CPA campaign is retracted, you’re not going to do very well.

But traffic I can surely give you some tips for!

One thing a lot of CPA marketers do is to find hot trends with Google Trends. Google Trends keeps track of the search phrases that are getting a massive spike in traffic at any one time. For example, during the Presidential Inauguration of Barack Obama, his name and the word “inauguration” were obviously big searches.

Now, if you had a CPA offer for something like a free Barack Obama Presidential coin, you could have made a killing that day by capitalizing on the massive search traffic. Advertising for “Barack Obama” and “Inauguration” on Google Adwords could have brought in massive views, and you’d be giving away free collector’s memorabilia for one of the most exciting Presidential Inaugurations in history!

This is an example of one way you can get started very quickly with CPA. Capitalizing on hot trends with PPC marketing lets you get traffic very quickly, and you can be making money in no time!

Of course, you have to make sure to tailor the campaign carefully. You might think that an offer for free lipstick would work well for a news event in which a top model gets arrested, but that might not be the case.

However advertising “free Britney Spears ring tones” on the day she wins a Grammy would probably be a fantastic campaign! Any music artist who makes the news for something like this will probably explode in popularity very quickly. If Britney won a Grammy, she’d probably surge back into popularity very quickly.

Daniel: What do you get by giving away the coin or the free ringtone? Do you want to use this as a method to get targeted visitors to ‘advertise’ your affiliate links later (by getting them to sign-up to a newsletter?). I thought using PPC for CPA will mean targeting the keywords people use when they want to ‘buy’ something.

How can I subscribe to the responses to my comments?

  2. Daniel on September 7th, 2009 2:59 am

Georgiy: Lets take the ring tones as an example.

In some CPA networks there are advertisers which are offering a free ring tone if the visitor fills out a form. This form can include only the email address or it can include the whole name and address of the visitor. After submitting the form, the visitor will receive the free ring tone.

You send people to the merchants website, using your affiliate link and you get then paid a commission for every form submission. And the merchant will try to sell more ring tones to these people.

This is how the merchants are making the money. For them it’s cheaper to pay you a commission for every visitor you’re sending them and who fills out the form (because these people are interested in the ring tones) instead of paying a lot of money for ads on TV channels or for other advertising methods.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Daniel

I was wondering if it is required for one to have their own website to be accepted into a CPA network, and if so, do they accept free blogging websites as your URL or would it have to be your own site with your own personal domain?

  4. Daniel on September 8th, 2009 12:39 pm

    Hi Alanna,

No it is not required to have your own website. However, it makes it much easier to get accepted if you have one.

If you don’t have your own website and you’re into PPC, you need to tell the CPA network about that. If you can show them, that you can launch successful PPC campaigns, then you can get accepted without any website.

If the network does decline you the first time, write them an email or call them up and tell them why they should accept you. This way 95% of the networks are going to accept you.

    I hope this helps.

    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,
Thanks so much for your reply. I am involved in affiliate marketing, so I am promoting 2 sites through that, but it just has the company URL and my ID number, so it is not my own site. But, would this be acceptable as a website to the CPA companies since I am generating traffic to it? Also, what about free blogging sites? Are those acceptable websites for CPA?

    Alanna

  6. Daniel on September 9th, 2009 2:45 am

    Hi Alanna,
You’re welcome. How do you generate traffic to it? Are you using PPC networks?

You can’t use the affiliate site as a reference, because it’s not your site. But if you can drive traffic to an affiliate site, you don’t need to have your own website to get accepted at the CPA networks. Instead of telling them the website you can write about how you’re going to promote these offers. That’s in most cases enough.

If you are in the health market, you should check out the following network. It’s easy to get accepted there. Just write your promotion methods and that’s enough to get accepted.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Daniel

PPC is a great way to market CPA offers, but these days, direct linking is very difficult to do because Google will most likely end up slapping you. Even if you had a really good review site, you can still get slapped, just like many have had that happen to them fairly recently. However, there are some other methods you can use such as article submissions, web 2.0, and seo.

I am not satisfied with the CPA program. I used to run this before when i am working with rightmedia. I got many traffics but less sign up from legitimate visitors. When we launch on freebies with sign up then we got many sign up but most are less important. I still favor PPC

I’m totally unfamiliar with this form of advertising, but I would think that if one stays on top of the emerging trends, you could see some immediate success.

    Am I right?

    @Dena, yes you’re right.

  13. Chris on November 24th, 2009 11:42 pm

I would like to think I make a mix of long and short-term focused CPA site. There are a lot of people that make excellent money setting up new sites on a daily basis, putting a content feed into it, a few affiliate links and then won’t touch it again. Especially things like reality TV stars etc. But always good to have your consistent long-term sites to fall back on.

CPA is a fantastic way of promoting offers online. However, there is a lot of testing and tracking involved. Once you get it right…you can bank on it to make a lot of cash. One of the secrets which really is not a secret at all is to promote great offers that have have high appeal torwards helping someone get rid of their problems and tracking your kywords at a macro level. It all about targeted traffic and sending that traffic to a qualified offer.

  22. Victor from WPCollider on March 14th, 2010 4:15 am

There is an approach that consider CPA offers very targeted. I prefer to look at them as being very consumer – 1page-submits and trials are designed to appeal to the casual visitor, not necessarily the one researching his purchase.
We used this to convert from WPCollider traffic – it’s just a matter of placing the offers properly, rotate and test, than slowly narrow what converts for the traffic your website is receiving in a specific period of time.

Nice post and helpful advice. CPA advertising really helps in promoting a website. It can drive traffic effectively. Anyway, I would like to share a tool that works similar to it as well. That is offline advertising. For example, I’ve had great luck with postcards, display ads, classified ads and recently radio advertising, which I am finding very interesting for driving qualified leads to my business.

Thanks for the tips. I’ve never tried CPA marketing myself but it has received a lot of hype in recent times so I’m sure it’s working for a lot of people. If I was to get started with CPA the first thing I’d do is find someone who has been very successful with CPA and see if they have guides or courses available.

Having just started online with the CPA offers within the last few months I needed to get some offers up on a multi site fairly quickly to populate all the categories I was aiming for. It was never going to be a ‘one offer one page’ I was looking to build but as an option CPA marketing is certainly potentially more lucrative than trying to sell stuff online for sure.

These days being a CPA affiliate is one of the hottest jobs on the internet because CPA marketing is thriving in recession too. Recession has made a lot of people jobless and many fear the loss of jobs. Due to recession many established companies are cutting their marketing costs. These companies are switching to internet marketing from the news papers and the TV commercials. CPA is one of the most popular forms of internet marketing and is thriving in the recession.

Once you get the hang of it, don’t forget that one profitable CPA campaign is not enough. Try experimenting on several CPA offers and work on it. It is better to have a few good ones then just one good CPA campaign to help you earn money from home.
So if you are game for CPA marketing and you want to start earning money from CPA marketing campaigns then take action now.

The best part is that it does not require a degree. If you possess marketing skills then probably you can not get a better chance to prove yourself at them. CPA requires proficient and polished marketing skills.

  34. Michael Stinger from Limo Service Boston on July 1st, 2010 11:53 am

Yes CPA is really an interesting topic. And right with the bad economy it’s a great way to make money with because you don’t need to generate a sale to get paid a commission. It’s like you may say generating leads is far easier than generating sales.

  35. Homer on July 2nd, 2010 7:34 am

The answer is that I am making a living with cost per sale affiliate programs… and my own products… and coaching people to make these two things. I never touched about cpa programs. I earn by selling high ticket products, so it’s amazing to see people making a living with $1 CPA offers. Just want to know how it works. Cost per sale is something, creating your products is something, and CPA is something else. Different business models, different approach.

I would have to agree with you completely about promoting real businesses as their are so many that promise a lot but deliver nothing or their product is super seeded before you can really make use of it. So the bottom line is this if you have a website which is producing a massive amount of traffic then look to the CPA networks, however if you have lesser traffic then it is better for you and your business if you focus on the PPS model which is affiliate marketing of physical products and services.
