15 Easy Tips To Increase The Traffic To Your Blog
Money and time are the two most precious assets you have in this world. This is why buying traffic for your website is the easiest way to increase your traffic. However, for those who are new at online marketing, you probably don’t have a lot of money to invest in improving your traffic. If this is your case, you’ll have to invest time instead of money.
The traffic techniques proposed in this article will take time but they are absolutely free. You’ll receive targeted traffic and if your site is properly monetized, you’ll soon be able to afford buying traffic. When that time comes, you can focus your newly acquired time to build other websites where you can repeat the whole process over again. Without further ado, here are 15 great free traffic techniques:
- The first and most important tip doesn’t get you traffic directly but will help to get a lot of traffic in the future. This is keyword research. You NEED to optimize your blog posts for the right keywords. So search for keywords in your niche, which have a search volume of at least 200 searches per month and don’t have more than 10’000 competing websites. This is extremely important. Write your content for the wrong keywords and you will never get a lot of traffic from the search engines.
- Optimize Your Blog for the search engines. If you’re using WordPress as your blogging platform, then I would recommend that you install the following plugins:

Bird Feeder (submits your posts to twitter.com)
Google (XML) Sitmaps Generator (it does create a sitemap from your blog and submit it to Google)
MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer
RSS Footer (this plugin let’s you add an extra link back to your homepage in your feed)
Simple CAPTCHA (a simple captcha system for comment system to prevent spam)
Sociable (automatically add links on your posts, pages and RSS feed to your favorite social bookmarking sites)
TweetMeme (makes it easy to retweet your posts)
What Would Seth Godin Do (displays a custom welcome message to new visitors and another to return visitors)
WP tags to Technorati (simple plugin to convert WordPress 2.3′s tags to Technorati (‘http://technorati.com’) links)
Yet Another Related Posts Plugin (this is extremely good to get a good linking structure within your blog). - Write one blog post every day for the first 30 days after you created your blog.
- After you have written about 5 posts, get the RSS feed of your blog and submit it to different RSS feed directories. Below you can find the 10 most powerful RSS directories (in my opinion):

articlecat.com - Search for blogs that are related to your subject and write comments that are relevant to the blog post. Don’t spam these blogs, otherwise your comment’s won’t get approved. When you leave a comment, use one of your keywords for your name, so you get a keyword reach backlink to your blog.
- Answer questions related to your subject at Yahoo Answers and include a link to your site in the reference section for each of your answers.
- Join one of the most popular forums about your subject and post on a regular basis. Include your website address in your signature block.
- Here’s a very powerful way to get traffic: write a press release that covers your website and submit it to press release sites (e.g., prweb.com). Keep in mind that press releases are not written like articles. Here are two sites with great tips about how to write a press release: prwebdirect.com and publicityinsider.com
- Find free classified sites and post ads that contain a link to your site. Try Craigslist.com for example. The best sites should let you put a live link but post with the other sites too. If your ad is catchy and interesting, people will copy your link address and paste it into their browser or type it in directly. Simply make sure that you select the right category.
- Use youtube.com and post a viral video. Feel free to use simple video techniques or a Power Point presentation with a soundtrack.
- Create accounts at some of the web 2.0 site like squidoo.com, hubpages.com, digg.com, livejournal.com, twitter.com, facebook.com, myspace.com, zimbio.com, tumblr.com, quizilla.com, webs.com, xomba.com, vox.com, xanga.com, weebly.com, blog.com, youbundle.com and publish great content on these sites. This will not only bring you some traffic but also creates some nice links back to your site (use the right keywords as your anchor text for the links), which increases the rankings in the search engines.
- If you’re feeling inspired, write a short 10 to 20-page report or even an e-book on a subject related to your niche. You can also use a product with giveaway rights and brand this product with a link to your website. Once these documents are created, submit them to several free e-book directories and/or join some giveaway events.
- Bookmark your posts from your blog and all the other places you published content. You can use socialmarker.com for these submissions. It’s free
- Write about other blog posts you read and found informative. Link to these specific blog posts. This will give you some links back to your blog posts through the track backs. It can also bring you some extra traffic from the other blogs.
This list may have you believe that you’ll be doing this for the rest of your life… While you can do all of these techniques if you have time, you can also pick and choose the ones that you want to put in place right now. Spend 30 to 60 minutes per day on building free traffic. Once you’ve covered a particular technique, move on to a different one and by being consistent, you should see a definite increase in traffic.

Wow, great content! I actually use a lot of these methods, but with my membership to Google Conquest Authority, I’m able to automate a lot of the processes. It probably would be even more perfect if using Web 2.0 sites could be more automated if that was even possible.
I don’t think you mentioned it, but another great way to gain traction for your sites is to create some videos and link back to your sites from them or post them directly onto your website.
