Pay per Click marketing using Google Adwords can be one the easiest ways to get quality traffic to your site, be it any topic, theme or market.  Google Adwords promises big revenue pay outs and it can deliver them - if you know know to optimize your accounts. However, taking the wrong steps could lead to the total loss of your entire advertising budget.  Both some hard work and a time commitment will be required of it in order to make PPC marketing beneficial.

It will be important to understand what works, so you will need to do some intensive testing to tailor your marketing plan. 1) Don’t Split Test

When you are starting out with Google Adwords, it’s very easy to lose your footing and make mistakes. When you are working on your own and trying so hard to make everything perfect, it’s easy to mistake a bad ad for something worthwhile. Keep in mind that it does not have to be perfect. On the internet, there are numerous people with web businesses who have made their businesses profitable. Knowing this, you can do some research and find out what your competition is doing. You want to find other marketers in your market who are placing successful ads.

You will know an ad is successful when it stays online for a couple of weeks or longer. If it was not bringing in money, the advertiser would have taken it off and replaced it. Remember, you do not want to simply copy the ad. You want to tweak it, so it meets you personality and needs. Doing so allows you to be successful without reinventing the wheel. It allows you to start converting visitors to sales.

2) Bad Keyword Targeting

Google’s Content Network is a network made up of other sites where Google’s ads are also displayed.  These sites aren’t guaranteed to be targeted towards your topic and could be AdSense based, where the information isn’t relevant or has other competing products that can prove to be a distraction.  How does this affect your campaign? Keep in mind that this method is a high risk that may mean lots of spending and very little return. In addition, these ads are difficult to track.  Your best best is to turn off the Content Network option, and use your Google Adwords PPC marketing campaign only on Google and its partner sites, where you have an advantage. The Content Network does have it’s benefits, but it is a whole other universe with different rules.

3. No Landing Page on Your Site

It is not unusual for new Adwords users to get overexcited and jump the gun without weighing the consequences of their actions. When newbies look at their projected numbers and realize their ad will generate 10,000 visitors in a month, they calculate their earnings then and there. Unfortunately, they fail to calculate the conversion rate of these visitors. The traffic has to convert.  The only way to accomplish this is to start off with a small amount of traffic, and then grow as the number of conversions grow. Using this type of method, you can maximize your earnings from PPC marketing and Adwords.
